Conversation, ideas and events for parents in Santa Rosa and Sonoma County

I am really excited about this month's challenge! And I swear, it's a lot easier than last month when I asked each of you to give something up for the month. This month it's all about our kids, or rather, the things that our kids do to drive us crazy. And I not only want stories, I want photos too! And yes, I have my own photos to share. Here's a teaser:

To read the story behind the picture, be sure to visit my blog.

So how about it moms? You can easily share your photos in the discussion forum by uploading it into the forum itself. Or you can upload it straight to your photo album. But be sure to let us all know. I will be choosing some crazy photos for the Mom Mail that is sent out to all who have subscribed. And I will be using them in the slideshow on the front page of Santa Rosa Mom.

So break out those cameras, and start recording those, er, precious moments!

I installed safety latches on all of the kitchen drawers except one because my daughter had such a good time opening the bottom drawer and pulling out all of the towels. It kept her occupied and towels are safe so what the heck. She pulled them out. I put them back. Repeat about 10 times a day.

Then she went and got smart on me. She pulled out the towels and stood in the drawer to reach the stove knobs.

I now have a latch on that drawer and covers on the stove knobs.

Aren't toddlers great? I can't even begin to tell you all the trouble my son got into as a toddler. But I can tell you about now...

I have a new story about the Taz, though I have no pictures. I've been way too irritated by his troublemaking that I can't even grab the camera. This latest shenanigan involves bath time. The other day I came into the bathroom after his shower. He neglected to put the lining in the tub, so there was a huge lake on the floor. This lake situation was exasperated by the fact that he likes to plug up the tub while the shower is going, and then make waves in the tub. And to make matters worse, he likes to bring his stuffed animals into the tub with him. And then he proceeds to remove all the stuffing or beans in the stuffed animal IN THE TUB. And when he lets the water drain out, these leavings go down the drain as well, causing the tub to stop up.

Keep in mind, the kid is 9 years old.

The two of us spent 30 minutes cleaning up all the water and the beans that had migrated out of the tub. And I also used the opportunity to teach him about leakage around the toilet and had him clean that up as well. The whole ordeal was a pain, but my bathroom was sparkling afterwards.

Fast forward a couple days to last night. Same story, minus the stuffed animal (hopefully I have gotten through to him about stuffed animals NOT being bath friendly). This time, there was water all over the bathroom, my salt scrub dripping down the side of the tub, the nearly full shampoo bottle on it's side FILLED WITH WATER along with the shampoo, and his baseball gear in the corner - including his cleats. If any of you have ever been on a baseball field, you know that the diamond consists of red dirt that gets everywhere. This red dirt was all over my bathroom floor, so that anyone exiting the bathtub would have dirty red feet afterwards. Of course, all this was discovered after the kids went to bed. I dragged him out of bed and made him do a quick clean up with me while I lectured.

I swear, sometimes I feel he is 9 going on 2......
