Conversation, ideas and events for parents in Santa Rosa and Sonoma County

My kids have a few key phrases that make me cringe every time I hear them.

1. "You don't get this mad when my brother/sister does this!"

It seems like every time I start lecturing one of the kids on their behavior, or something they didn't do, they have to blameshift.  They point out their sibling's similar misbehavior.  Or they claim that I am treating them worse then their brother or sister.  It drives me nuts!

2. "Let me just finish (enter random activity here)."

This is usually said when I need them to set the table, get ready for bed, do the dishes, take a shower...  And inevitably they are trying to get to the next level in their video game, finish the chapter they are on, or some other time-sucking activity.  And finishing said activity usually means that another couple of chapters get read or several more levels of the video game are conquered.  And a couple minutes turns into 45 minutes or more.

3. "I'm not doing anything!"

As if incessantly humming, tapping, bouncing off the walls, jumping on the bed, dumping out all the Lego's, or skateboarding in the house is "not doing anything".

What are some of the key phrases your kid has that drives you nuts?
